Guthrie was virtually untouchable yesterday against the Boston Red Sox, who carry the best record in all of Major League Baseball. Guthrie pitched into the ninth inning, giving up only three hits and not a single earned run in his 8+ innings, a truly remarkable feat.Unfortunately, the Baltimore relief pitchers subsequently allowed 6 runs against the Red Sox in the bottom of the ninth after Guthrie was pulled, so the Orioles ended up losing the game. Regardless, Guthrie's performance comes as an immense blessing for the Orioles, who have suffered injuries in three of their five starters so far this year. Guthrie appears to be making his way into the permanent rotation.
